The open-air space is lined with restored neon signs collected from across Poland. Many of these originate from shops, cinemas, and services operating during the communist period in Poland.
Accessible through narrow alleyways, these signs in the courtyard are mounted directly onto the walls of surrounding buildings. It is a permanent open-air exhibition.
The gallery operates as a public space, so the entry is free. The neon installations are visible throughout the day, though the true experience is at night when the signs are fully lit. Street art and murals fill the remaining wall surfaces.

Origins & Significance of Neon Side Gallery Wrocław
The Neon Side Gallery in Wrocław began in 2005, sparked by Tomasz Kosmalski’s passion for preserving antique neon signs. His first acquisition was a neon from a pastry shop destined for scrap, marking the start of efforts to save fading neon advertisements from Wrocław’s streets.
Neon signage was a significant part of urban identity in post-war Poland, used widely from the 1950s to the late 1980s.
By 2014, with the city’s support, the gallery officially opened, displaying historic neon signs. The gallery’s location occupies the site of Reklama, once the largest neon manufacturer in Lower Silesia during the communist era.
Restoration of each neon required careful work to bring the signs back to their original brightness. Today, Neon Side Gallery Wrocław is not only an exhibition of old advertising but a cultural centre. It hosts events, workshops, and meetings, maintaining its role as a vibrant part of Wrocław’s cultural life.
The courtyard’s industrial layout, exposed walls, and layered signage reflect the original neon sign context. The gallery retains a raw setting that mirrors the true character of the signs.
