Cathédrale Notre Dame Luxembourg Is Misplaced on Google Maps

Are you in Luxembourg City Centre, and standing in the middle of Rue Large, searching for the Cathédrale Notre Dame Luxembourg on Google Maps without much luck?

Here’s what went wrong, and where to go.

Here’s my million-dollar advice! 😉 Instead of looking up ‘Cathedral Notre Dame’, search for 7 Rue Notre Dame, 2240 Ville-Haute Luxembourg

That’s the inaccurate location of Notre Dame Cathedral, Luxembourg (in the pic above), you’ll find on Google Maps unless they decide to fix it soon.

The capital of Luxembourg, Luxembourg City, is famed for its fortified medieval old town, scenic cliffs, dotted viewpoints, and the world-famous Grund quarter in central Luxembourg City.

While wandering the Luxembourg City streets, dotted with façades of over 1200 protected buildings depicting the city’s fine architectural legacy in great taste, I found this major glitch.

It happens to be associated with one famous tourist attraction in Luxembourg – the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Luxembourg.

Completed in 1621, of Gothic, Baroque & Renaissance styles, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Luxembourg is an impressive Roman Catholic Cathedral located at 7 Rue Notre Dame, 2240 Ville-Haute, Luxembourg.

Now that’s a BIG issue because the Cathédrale Notre-Dame is incorrectly marked on Google! Neither the Luxembourg City authorities nor Google has tried to correct this mistake, which has caused trouble to many tourists on a daily basis!

I was on my business trip to Luxembourg 10 days ago, and like every other tourist, I followed Google’s leads impulsively while on my Luxembourg City walking tour. The Google location of the Cathedral Notre-Dame Luxembourg took us to Rue Large – a street by the cliffs on the edge of the famous Grund in central Luxembourg.

The onlooking local shopkeepers came to our rescue. These good local people come forward to help many clueless tourists in Luxembourg City who end up circumnavigating their location(wrongly shown by the Maps) while looking for the actual Notre-Dame.

Long story short, the Cathedral Notre-Dame Luxembourg incorrectly shows it on Rue Large on Google Maps, while the actual location of Cathedral Notre-Dame is 300m (5 min walk) to the west of the Google location. The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Luxembourg is located on Rue Notre Dame.

Luxembourg is a small European country, encircled by Belgium(to the north and west), France (south) and Germany(north and east). Its capital, Luxembourg City, is meticulously carved on the rocks, offering tourists a superb blend of nature and architecture. While car parking is expensive, public transport is FREE for everyone! But wait, I found a perfect 24-hour free parking in Luxembourg, just a 10-minute drive west of the city centre!

It’s a lifesaver for every tourist in Luxembourg who wants to explore the city with their car and doesn’t want to spend an additional 50-75 EUR per day just on parking.

Famed for its fortified medieval old town overlooking the spectacular city from scenic cliffs, Luxembourg City is speckled with viewpoints and several hidden gems of Europe. More findings from my recent Luxembourg trip are to follow on the blog. Stay tuned!
