Talking Wrocław on Radio RAM: A Sunday Lunch Conversation

Terry & Maciej at Radio RAM Wrocław

I was invited to the Sunday Lunch on Radio RAM. The conversation moved to my journey in Poland and the hidden places in Wrocław. There was no fixed set of questions, unlike a standard interview, which allowed the conversation to flow naturally. Terry was an amazing RJ.

We spoke about how I decided to move to Poland for my Master’s in Tourism & Hospitality in 2018, why I stayed on in Wrocław, and how Whistling Hound developed alongside daily life in the city. Our conversation moved through writing, walking, and paying attention to places that don’t usually sit at the centre of travel narratives.

The focus stayed practical and personal, centred on my experiences as a foreigner in Wrocław. It included both familiar and offbeat travels in Poland.

Sunday Lunch on Radio RAM is a relaxed, conversational slot built around everyday stories from Wrocław. It is the city’s first English–Polish radio show, hosted by Terry Clark-Ward and Maciek Przestalski, airing every Sunday from 12:00 to 14:00 on Radio RAM (89.8 FM).

We spoke about my first backpacking trip to Europe in December 2017–January 2018, including ten days spent travelling across Poland. That trip became the main reason I chose Poland for my master’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality in 2018.

The conversation moved through what made me stay on in Wrocław, and how Whistling Hound developed through time spent in the city beyond obvious routes. We talked about working independently as a city tour guide, growing into a local tourism marketer, and promoting Wrocław and its businesses through storytelling. The focus stayed on quieter corners of the city that rarely make it into guidebooks.

Higher Studies in Poland, Life in Wrocław & Developing Whistling Hound

I discovered the University of Wrocław as one of the few European public universities offering full-time master’s courses in English. And Poland became my preferred choice for the autumn 2018 intake. Hefty Schengen visa paperwork followed, and I moved to Wrocław as an expat. My studies began, along with an Erasmus internship in Finland. After finishing my studies, a period of job searching followed. It pushed me to invest more seriously in my blog and gradually shape it into a full-fledged brand.

Whistling Hound Wrocław began as an independent project focused on experience-led travel and long-form brandstorytelling. The work sits at the intersection of writing, walking, and working with places over time.

Today, I plan my schedule around city tours and local collaborations. I also conduct day tours across the Lower Silesian Upland, Sudetes hiking routes, and city tours in Poznań, Kraków, and Warsaw. On special request, I curate premium multi-day custom tours across Poland. Day-to-day life is demanding and rewarding at the same time. I spend a lot of time walking and cycling through neighbourhoods, capturing urban landscapes, seasonal shifts, and some of the best city parks in Wrocław.

I also run a closed Facebook group: Wrocław & Poland: Local Travel Tips, Hidden Gems & Tours, for people looking for recommendations and city tours in Wrocław. There couldn’t have been a better platform than Radio RAM to speak about all this.

Terry’s twenty-five years of living in Wrocław brought depth to the conversation. His knowledge of the city is remarkable. Alongside radio, he runs an English language school: Queen’s School of English. The school is designed to improve the English language skills of the local population, thanks to a school with Native Speakers from the UK and North America.

Inside Radio Wrocław and the Sunday at Radio RAM

Radio RAM operates from the Radio Wrocław building on Aleja Karkonoska, which houses multiple stations under one roof. It includes Radio Wrocław and Radio Wrocław Kultura. Radio RAM began broadcasting on 89.8 FM in 2000 as a local station, with programming centred on music, city culture, and everyday life in Wrocław. Over the years, it has built a strong following, particularly among younger listeners in the city and surrounding region.

What started as a Sunday Lunch slot at Radio RAM extended into nearly two and a halfhours visit inside the building. Beyond the studio, Terry showed me around shared spaces used by different radio stations in Wrocław. The building includes a historic auditorium for recordings and live programmes, along with hall-of-fame corridors lined with photographs of past guests and contributors. Walking through them gives a clear sense of the station’s long-standing connection with Wrocław city culture.
