Tucked in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiri Hills, Wellington is a serene escape between Ooty and Coonoor, where crisp 13°C air and lush greenery offer a stark contrast to India’s scorching plains. A 2024 TripAdvisor survey ranked the Nilgiris among South India’s top slow travel destinations, and Wellington delivers with its biodiversity, colonial charm, and adventure trails. Whether you’re fleeing Delhi’s 43°C heat or chasing authentic experiences, this military town and its neighbours promise a transformative trip.
Here’s your ultimate guide to Wellington’s best, updated for 2025.
Unlock Nilgiris’ Hidden Gems through this immersive Wellington travel guide
To soak in the magical bliss of the south, I’d recommend everyone take a trip to the Nilgiris. India’s oldest biosphere reserve, the Nilgiris, offers the thickest nature canopy in South India. I grabbed the unique opportunity to visit Coonoor & Wellington this summer. It didn’t disappoint!

After learning about its wonderful biodiversity and stunning outdoors, I was lured into a trip to Wellington, and what could be a perfect time to explore the place other than the peak summer. So, instead of getting toasted in Delhi (at 43 degrees Celsius), I chose to pack my bag and escape to Wellington in Tamil Nadu. Perfect 13-degree weather, lush green outdoors, topped with crisp mountain air, and occasional monsoon drizzles, is all you need to beat the great Indian summers. Safe to say, I savoured the best that Wellington, Coonoor, and Ooty combined had to offer!

Hello!
I would recommend you to look it up on Booking or Airbnb. During my stay in Wellington, I stayed in government accommodation, so I don’t have anything to recommend. Thanks
